Who we are

Founded in 1912 by Giuseppe Sala Sr. and Giancesare Sala, the firm’s professional activity was developed and carried out by the founder himself and continued by his three sons, Enzo Sala, Giuseppe Sala Jr. and Giancesare Sala.
They were joined by Claudio and Maria Sala in the late 1970s and by Luca Sala in 2007.

Our history

Eleventh in a family of landowning farmers and with the land set to be inherited by the oldest two sons, Giuseppe and two of his brothers left to study according to their respective inclinations.
One became a lawyer, another an engineer and the third a doctor.
The firm’s beginnings were closely linked to what Giuseppe came from: he started out as a lawyer to the farmers.
His brilliant professional life, marked by Christian and charitable values, led him into politics and the management of various companies.
That which is written below sums up the story of his life.
His personal and professional qualities were recognized both during his life and long after.

The founder

GIUSEPPE SALA (1886-1974)

A freelance professional, he practiced law in Milan.
He took part in the Catholic Action in his youth, was president of the San Severino Boezio of Pavia Catholic University Club, and president of the Supreme Council of San Vicenzo for twenty-five years.
An official in the military reserve during the First World War and imprisoned during the Second, his political activity started in the Italian People’s Party.
Elected councilor of the Municipality of Milan, he was commissioner from 1948-1956.
From 1945-1951, he was councilor of the ECA and from 1956, president of the Martinitt and Stelline orphanages and the Pio Albergo Trivulzio retirement home and hospital.
He was also councilor of the Fondazione del Credito Artigiano.
He was awarded the gold medal from the Municipality of Milan, as well as from the Jewish Committee in gratitude for his assistance, as president of the San Vincenzo, towards them. He was awarded the Ambrogino d’Oro by the Municipality of Milan, received a dedicated plaque from the Province of Milan, and countless other honors, which he deemed “ballunitt de savun”, soap bubbles!

On March 6, 2014, he was remembered during the second European day of the Righteous with the laying of a memorial stone and the planting of a tree.

His personal, moral and professional imprint was carried on in the lives and activities of his children, Enzo, Giuseppe Jr. and Giancesare.

Each of them, despite life’s hardships (the first and third sons, like their father Giuseppe, were imprisoned during Italy’s Fascist Era), proficiently carried out their professional activities with constant growth, always maintaining the law firm’s family imprint.

The second generation

ENZO SALA (1913-1979)

Born in Milan on January 28, 1913 and passed away on March 29, 1979.
He graduated from the Leone XIII classical high school and then the Catholic University of Milan in 1934. For nearly half a century, he worked at Studio Sala.
His first professional activities dealt with building and urban planning.
Married and with six children, he was the founder and president of the Worldwide Union of Jesuit Alumni and president of the Commissione Regionale Centri Storici.

GIUSEPPE SALA Jr. (1930-2007)

Born in Milan on June 26, 1930 and passed away on August 2, 2007.
He was the untiring and discreet protagonist of Milan’s public life.
He began his professional activity specializing in industrial law.
In the 1960s, his focus shifted to urban planning, building and environmental law, becoming one of leading experts in this field and contributing to the drafting of regional regulations.
He was president of the Consorzio Regionale degli Istituti Autonomi delle Case Popolari for more than ten years.
He knew how to consistently balance family life, professional life and the work he did for others as a member of the Diocesan Council for the Support of the Clergy and the Fondazione Don Gnocchi.
His most loved work was the Villaggio Barona della Fondazione Cassoni, in which he was president for many years.
Agreed upon by the Municipality of Milan, it was an initiative considered an example of “social housing”, avant la lettre, highly innovative, and constructed on an abandoned industrial site.
In 2007, in his memory, he was honored with the Ambrogino d’Oro by the Municipality of Milan, a dedicated plaque by the Province of Milan and a gold medal by the Milan Bar Association in honor of his fifty years of professional activity.

GIANCESARE SALA (1924-2011)

Born in Milan on May 15, 1924 and passed away on December 3, 2011.
He graduated from the Leone XIII classical high school and then from the University of Milan in 1947.
After a directional administrative experience with a multinational corporation, he worked at Studio Avvocati Sala for 45 years.
He dealt with expropriation proceedings and real estate tax matters, while helping carry out the growth and expansion of the firm from family size into something larger. Married, three children, prisoner during the occupation, and on the Board of Directors of the Piccolo Teatro in Milan.
He was awarded a gold medal by the Milan Bar Association in honor of his fifty years of professional activity.
